This series consists of four books Paul consulted during his merchant-marine career. They are a 1924 manual for ship pilots on the Gulf of Mexico, a 1947 manual on navigational aids, a 1950 manual for lifeboat operators and able seamen, and an 1856 account of a voyage through the China Seas and around Japan.

Scope and Contents This series contains 19 technical specifications for ships and their parts in paperbound notebooks ranging from eight to 75 pages. The ship specifications are mostly for steamships designed to carry freight or oil, with one steel car float for railroad cars. Other specifications are for ships' boilers and engines. Series IV: News Clippings and Historical Material, 1898-1958

Scope and Contents

McMurray assembled this collection of news clippings and historical material concerning maritime subjects, particularly episodes he had experienced. Examples include material on the Battle of Santiago (July 3, 1898) in the Spanish-American War, a rescue on the "Atlantis," and incidents in the history of the Seaman's Union.
